Rs 837 Crore Hi-Tech Cybercrime HQ Inaugurated in Navi Mumbai, New Cyber Helpline 14407 Launched

The Maharashtra government took a significant step in strengthening its fight against cybercrime with the inauguration of the Cybercrime Investigation Capacity Centre at Mahape, Navi Mumbai, on Friday. Although initially approved in 2016 under then Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the project experienced delays before being revived in 2022. The state cabinet ultimately greenlit the project last year, allocating Rs 837 crore for its completion.

The centre was officially inaugurated by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, alongside state Director General of Police (DGP) Rashmi Shukla. During the event, Fadnavis emphasized the increasing sophistication of cyber threats and the need for innovative and proactive solutions. “We have acquired some of the best global technologies to help us combat cybercrime effectively,” Fadnavis remarked.

Situated in the five-storey headquarters at Millennium Business Park, Mahape, the centre will serve as the primary hub for addressing cybercrime issues across the state.

Key features of the facility include a Technology-Assisted Intelligence (TAI) laboratory, which leverages artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning tools to aid investigations into crimes like cryptocurrency fraud. It also houses a Security Operations Centre (SOC) designed to manage large-scale security breaches and respond to threats targeting individuals and businesses. Additionally, a Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) is tasked with coordinating swift responses to cyber incidents. A 24/7 Command Centre with a dedicated helpline will be operational to provide immediate assistance.
